The World on my Shoulders: A Reflection

This Project has been a trial. After two years of Covid madness, a plethora of mental health issues, and an unforeseeable amount of communication problems between myself and the university, I can't believe it's finally over.

That is not to say I haven't enjoyed the collaboration. Drawing for the campaign and for this project has been one of the few things that have kept me going during the hard times. A chance to create an image of a fellow player's character and see their face light up, a chance to build something that means something to someone else, it has been a pleasure. But it hasn't been easy.

I have discussed a lot of the difficulties I have overcome in the various other sections of this website. I have talked about technical problems, style problems, and a whole series of other challenges I have faced through the development of both the cards and the other images. This has to be one of the most extensive and prolific pieces of work I have ever completed. In total, I have drawn well over a hundred sketches and at least 40 completed images. It has been a blast but a tiring one.

I am looking forward to continuing to collaborate, having enjoyed having a project to work towards that wasn't solely run by me. The collaborative spirit and the fun that we were able to have in the development of the final pieces more than made up for the bad bits.

In the future, I will build a project plan far earlier and keep myself to it. A lack of hard deadlines has meant that certain aspects of this project have dragged on far longer than they should have. Finally getting everything together, collating, and uploading everything was a trial all of its own and I am so glad to have had a collaborator like Darragh to offer suggestions, support, and a good laugh when things got especially stressful.

Moving forward I want to try to continue to work with Darragh on more projects and perhaps to even finished the full High Arcana Deck and have it printed for those who want it. I look forward to a future where I can see my illustrations alongside text and in ever more wild and wacky scenarios. By pushing myself out of my comfort zone to collaborate on this project I have been able to achieve things I never thought possible.

Here's to the future, I may feel like Atlas, but after spending so long with Darragh I'm in the wrong Mythological Pantheon. I wonder if Irish Mythology has an equivalent.
